The Eight PUMA States

November 12, 2008 by Will Bower · 27 Comments

There are eight states which John McCain would not have won if the Democrats voting for him had instead voted for Barack Obama.

These states are:

Missouri

Montana

Georgia

South Dakota

Arizona

West Virginia

Kentucky

Louisiana

This represents a total of 64 Electoral votes.

As it stands, the Electoral count is 364/174, Obama.

Had it not been for Democrats voting for McCain, this count would have been 428/110.

The PUMA voting block may not have prevented an Obama presidency, but it *did* prevent Obama from having a Reaganesque win… and thus, with it, his attempt to garner the mantle of being the Democrat’s Ronald Reagan.

And — lest anyone think that these are states which could not have been won by a Democrat anyways — all of these states (with the exception of South Dakota) were won by Bill Clinton in either 1992 or 1996… or both.

Missouri    (Clinton 92/96)

Montana   (Clinton 92)

Georgia     (Clinton 92)

Arizona     (Clinton 96)

West Virginia  (Clinton 92/96)

Kentucky     (Clinton 92/96)

Louisiana     (Clinton 92/96)

The PUMA Vote… Wait, there are only 12 PUMAs in the Nation… Right… Right…

October 27, 2008 by PUMA Pundit · 29 Comments

So far, so good. I like what I see, and I see what I like, let’s take a look at two interesting developments:

California has begun early voting already as well as mail-in balloting. The number of people who have gone in to vote in person has been extensive. The results so far prove what we had always suspected. The polls are being proven as totally unreliable. Although the results of early balloting have not been disclosed,of course, how many Republicans and how many Democrats have voted has been revealed.

The results are simply shocking. The polls showed Barack Obama with an 18 point lead in California just a few days ago. The results thus far are the complete opposite. In the most liberal state in the entire country, the results are that 99,000 Republicans have voted and 96,000 Democrats voted. In the mail-in balloting the results so far are that 9,000 Democrats sent in their ballots and that 5,000 Republicans did so. So with nearly 210,000 people having voted, the Democrats have only a 1,000 vote advantage!

Obamabots, sorry to dissapoint you, but a minimum of 1 in 4 Democrats, and as many as 2 in 4 will NOT be voting for Barack Obama… Remember, PUMAs are silent but extremely deadly.

So in Cali the real number is closer to 115,000 votes for McCain/Palin:90k from the GOP base and 25k of the Democrats (10% of the registered Republicans may not vote for that ticket), and about 90,000 for Obama/Biden (assuming a HIGHLY unlikely 50% of the 10% of the registered Republicans vote for that ticket).

Having said that, let’s look at the other piece of extremely interesting news:

All the hype in Ohio was pure fantasy when it came to Obama getting out the vote with this massive wave, which turned out to be barely a ripple.

Second, Gallup came out with poll numbers showing the amount of early voters between Obama and McCain show no huge wave for Obama, but actually a dead even race. Even though Gallup’s own national poll models showed a huge lead for Obama, it was not showing up in the early voting.

Ha! Of those who do vote for Obama… The GOP base is bound to deliver for McCain/Palin, Independents are bound to deliver for McCain/Palin and of course, PUMAs are bound to deliver for McCain/Palin…

So, if you haven’t voted already, please do so ASAP, now or on election day… Don’t give up, Comrade Obama will not win this election if you vote!

Letter to the Republican Party from a concerned PUMA…

October 14, 2008 by PUMA Pundit · 90 Comments

Dear Members of the Republican Party,

Like millions of other PUMAs, the only thing I’ve decided about this election is that under no circumstances would I be voting for Barack Obama. However, like millions of other PUMAs I have also realized that the only way to ensure that Barack Obama is not elected President is if John McCain wins on November 4th.

In the last few months, I have watched with amazement as you have worked hard to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in the Presidential election. In your public and private utterances you have been pessimistic, downcast, fatalistic and have shown signs of being mentally out of the game.

How easily you forget that compared to Barack Obama, in John McCain you not only have a candidate who was legitimately elected by your party, but you have a better candidate, a better message, and a better connection to Main Street, USA. Despite all this you carry on like the election is over and Barack Obama has already won.

It is sad that compared to the rank and file of the GOP, PUMAs are more steadfast in their belief that an Obama presidency is not inevitable. All over the MSM, in the blogosphere and in conversations with people everywhere, members of the GOP who should still be fighting the good fight are talking like a party that has already lost. Why should this be so?

As PUMAs, during the primaries we took the Obama machine on and won, we kept our faith and acted from the realization that no matter what our contributions were, doing something was infinitely better than doing nothing. Either way we knew that sink or swim, till it was over, it iwas not over. The GOP needs to come to this same realization in regards to this election immediately.

The reason Hillary prevailed till she chose to give it all up for the sake of party unity (my a..) is because those of us in her corner supported her candidacy against all odds. Despite all of Hillary’s flaws, and believe you me, there are many, when it came to supporting her candidacy we never showed hurt, never showed fear, never backed down, and never gave up. You can do the same.

As PUMAs we worked our butt off to ensure Hillary Clinton won the Democratic Party’s Primary, against all odds, including being outspent 4 : 1, the MSM being in Obama’s corner, charges of racism and blatant displays of sexism by Obama and his surrogates, and last but not least, electoral fraud perpetuated by ACORN. Folks, indeed the more things change the more they stay the same, nothing has changed, except John McCain has taken the place of Hillary Clinton.

How dare you back down, how dare you give up on John McCain and Sarah Palin? Right now they are the only two people in the world standing between the America we love and cherish and a society remade in the image of Barack Obama. Obama is a man whose political ideology is more in line with that of Daniel Arap Moi, a founding father of Kenya who thrived on the cult of personality, than it is in line with that of our founding father, George Washington, a man who put it all on the line so that our country would truly be greater than any one man.

Is it going to be hard to do this, but you must fight. You must stop griping, complaining and talking about how the deck is stacked against your candidate and your party, yes, life isn’t fair, but it has never been. Instead get in the trenches to fight for McCain/Palin. There must be no retreat, there must be no surrender, till it is midnight in Hawaii and the election is over in all parts of the United States, the election is not over.

Go out and talk to people, educate people on McCain and Palin’s strengths, also educate people on Obama and Biden’s extremely obvious character deficiencies. Nobody who truly loves America and the American way of life can compare the candidates and give any sort of edge to Obama/Biden.

Not everybody is going to listen to you, but who cares? If people don’t want to listen to you, go talk to someone else, if they don’t want to listen to you, go talk to yet another person, eventually, you’ll find someone who has been waiting just to hear your message, and that person will at the minimum NOT vote for Obama, even if s/he does not vote for McCain/Palin. Every single not cast for Obama is a vote that keeps Obama out of the White House, it is that simple.

None of this is going to be easy, pleasant or maybe even enjoyable, because hard work is required, but guess what? The only place success comes before work is in the dictionary.

Lastly, Republicans, you can count on PUMAs to work till the bell is rung to prevent Obama from being elected, you must do the same!

McCain Defending Obama Before His Base…

October 11, 2008 by PUMA Pundit · 19 Comments

When a candidate has to defend his opponent in front of his own base, there is a problem. While I hope Obama is never elected, if he is, based on his track record I do not see how genuine reconciliation can ever happen.

All around the world when elections are rigged, the administration that emerges never builds unity. Obama did it in the primaries, and is attempting to do it again in November. I know these United States can overcome this too, but the question is at what price?

McCain is ready to loose the election to preserve the Union, Obama is ready to destroy the Union in order to win the election. The choice could not be more clear.

McCain says FDIC limit ought to be raised to $250,000 from $100k with or without Congress…

September 30, 2008 by PUMA Pundit · 2 Comments

John McCain believes the treasury should, via the FDIC go ahead and increase the insurance on deposits from $100,000 to $250,000 with or without Congressional approval.

“I have talked to the President this morning and recommended an increase from $100,000 to $250,000 FDIC insurance on deposits. I also strongly recommended that we use the exchange stability fund that the Treasury has available — $250 billion — to shore up these institutions. Also, the Treasury has at its disposal about $1 trillion that they could begin without Congressional authority buying up some of these terrible mortgages and help stabilize the situation. So I’ve talked to the President. I know that we have to act. Even though we failed yesterday, even though I went back and was able to get more Republicans on board or help get more Republicans on board, we will go back to this, and I will be engaged always where I think America needs engagement.”

Here’s the Video

“We’re going to have to change enough Republican and Democrats’ minds. It was 95 Democrats that voted against it. People’s credit is at risk here — the ability to buy a car, to make your home loan payments, for small businesses to get credit. Look, this is affecting Main Street America. And we’re going to have to resolve it, and we’re going to have to act. One point two trillion dollars of American savings, pensions, IRAs, mutual funds, investments, et cetera was wiped out, and that hurts Main Street. I’ve got a plan for cutting spending, for keeping taxes low, for making sure that people can stay in their homes, and a long-term plan. In the short-term, we’ve got to take these measures I just outlined to you, and let’s go back, and let’s make Americans understand who are opposed. I was watching your program earlier. How this affects not Wall Street, but Main Street and working families of America.”

Meanwhile, this isn’t McCain taking a populist stand, he’s been talking about the whole mess with Freddie and Fannie way before it became an issue in this election cycle:

Meanwhile, around the same time, Democrats were insisting that there is nothing wrong with Freddie and Fannie:

But the real question is what exactly was Obama up to while this mortgage mess was playing out? Real Clear Politics provides the answer:

The financial markets were teetering on the edge of an abyss last week. The secretary of the Treasury was literally on his knees begging the speaker of the House not to sabotage the bailout bill. … amid all this, the Democrats in Congress managed to find time to slip language into the bailout legislation that would provide a dandy little slush fund for ACORN.

ACORN stands for the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, a busy hive of left-wing agitation and “direct action” that claims chapters in 50 cities and 100,000 dues-paying members. ACORN is where Sixties leftovers who couldn’t get tenure at universities wound up. That the bill-writing Democrats remembered their pet clients during such an emergency speaks volumes. This attempted gift to ACORN (stripped out of the bill after outraged howls from Republicans) demonstrates how little Democrats understand about what caused the mess we’re in.

ACORN attracted Barack Obama in his youthful community organizing days. Madeline Talbott hired him to train her staff — the very people who would later descend on Chicago’s banks as CRA shakedown artists. The Democratic nominee later funneled money to the group through the Woods Fund, on whose board he sat, and through the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, ditto. Obama was not just sympathetic — he was an ACORN fellow traveler.

Video: Financial crisis in 10 minutes or less

September 26, 2008 by PUMA Pundit · 1 Comment

“Burning Down the House” has been floating around the net for a few days:

Ed Morrissey has a few salient points to add:

A few clarifications should be made. This video lays all of the blame on Democrats, which is a natural reaction in an election year, but that lets a lot of Republicans off the hook. In 2003, the Bush administration tried to stop the runaway train of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and Republicans controlled both chambers of Congress. Democrats alone didn’t stop this. No one filibustered the Bush administration’s bill in the Senate; it didn’t have the votes to pass anyway. Likewise in 2006, when Chuck Hagel, John McCain, John Sununu, and Elizabeth Dole attempted to fix Fannie and Freddie, Republicans controlled Congress and did nothing to pass this bill. Democrats blocked it, but without some help from Republicans, both efforts would have passed easily.

Who’s the better uniter?

September 18, 2008 by PUMA Pundit · 4 Comments

Great article from USA Today. It is great to know that some journalists actually look at things objectively and not through rose-colored glasses.

The meat and potatoes of the article:

McCain, in Congress for 26 years to Obama’s four, has the longer record of producing bipartisan alliances on tough issues. He has bucked his party again and again to do just that — on immigration, federal judges and campaign finance, to name three on which he enraged many Republicans by defying the party position and working with Democrats. McCain-the-maverick has reverted to party orthodoxy on taxes and other issues this year, which will put him in a bind if elected: Would he stick with those new positions, or compromise with the Democratic Congress he’d likely be working with?

As McCain points out on the campaign trail, Obama has a much thinner record of bucking his own party. With the exception of tough fights for ethics reforms in the Illinois Senate and in Washington — where he angered Democratic colleagues by insisting on the disclosure of lobbyists who bundle campaign donations — Obama has rarely challenged party dogma on the sort of big, contentious issues he’d face as president. As a U.S. senator, he has taken liberal Democratic positions on most issues. Studies by Congressional Quarterly show Obama has voted with his party almost 97% of the time, vs. about 85% for McCain.

Where Obama has diverged, it has often been rhetorical and reactive: After securing the nomination, he expressed disagreement with a Supreme Court decision that struck down the death penalty in cases of child rape, and he approved a decision that overturned a strict gun control law in Washington, D.C. He has signaled support for a modified form of affirmative action (extending it to poorer whites and denying it to better-off African Americans), and he has supported a key Bush initiative that funnels federal dollars to faith-based groups.

Obama’s bipartisan accomplishments in Washington have been on significant, but relatively non-controversial, efforts to secure nuclear weapons and establish a federal-spending database. What he lacks is a record of challenging his own party on divisive, difficult issues — the deficit, immigration, energy — that he’d have to reach out to Republicans on if he’s elected. Even with a Democratic majority in Congress, it takes 60 votes in the Senate to pass most major measures.

So there you have it folks.

Not surprisingly… McCain Less Partisan Than Obama…

September 15, 2008 by PUMA Pundit · 1 Comment

John McCainOf course Obama and his loyalists would like to argue otherwise, but in an article published in today’s Washington Times, we get the following snippets:

Sen. John McCain’s record of working with Democrats easily outstrips Sen. Barack Obama’s efforts with Republicans, according to an analysis by The Washington Times of their legislative records.

Whether looking at bills they have led on or bills they have signed onto, Mr. McCain has reached across the aisle far more frequently and with more members than Mr. Obama since the latter came to the Senate in 2005.

In fact, by several measures, Mr. McCain has been more likely to team up with Democrats than with members of his own party. Democrats made up 55 percent of his political partners over the last two Congresses, including on the tough issues of campaign finance and global warming. For Mr. Obama, Republicans were only 13 percent of his co-sponsors during his time in the Senate, and he had his biggest bipartisan successes on noncontroversial measures, such as issuing a postage stamp in honor of civil rights icon Rosa Parks.

and

But since 2005, Mr. McCain has led as chief sponsor of 82 bills, on which he had 120 Democratic co-sponsors out of 220 total, for an average of 55 percent. He worked with Democrats on 50 of his bills, and of those, 37 times Democrats outnumber Republicans as co-sponsors.

Mr. Obama, meanwhile, sponsored 120 bills, of which Republicans co-sponsored just 26, and on only five bills did Republicans outnumber Democrats. Mr. Obama gained 522 total Democratic co-sponsors but only 75 Republicans, for an average of 13 percent of his co-sponsors.

An Obama campaign spokesman declined to comment on The Times analysis.

So there you have it folks. You want someone who understands true bipartisanship, Mr. Obama is definitely not the one you are looking for…
