How accurate is Obama’s claim that the RNC and McCain are neck deep in special interest contributions? Not accurate at all, it turns out…

As may be recalled Obama cited the fact that McCain and the RNC raise a lot of money from Washington Lobbyists and special interests as a reason for his (Obama’s) dropping out of the public financing system for the General election, something no Presidential candidate has done since the Watergate scandal in the early 70s.

FactCheck, checked this claim out and it seems that the special interest contributions equal just 1.7% of total contributions in McCain’s case and 1.1% in the case of the RNC.

Patrick Ruffini, posting on his blog, goes one step further and shows the top employers of Obama’s contributors.

Now if lobbyists are the source of all our Presidential election financing problems as Obama seems to imply, and lobbyists are hired by corporations and special interests to make a case for their corporate masters, why the heck has Obama taken so much cash from the same corporations and special interests, albeit in the form of “personal” donations from the employees of those corporate entities?

Of course Obama’s camp puts a spin on these donations by making it seem that they are all independent individual donors, all putting their pockets book in alignment with their political beliefs. Thankfully, Factcheck called him out on this way back in February, when he had a campaign ad running in PA saying he did not take money from Oil Companies…

Exit Question: Do you believe Obama believes the public would buy his explanation on why he opted out of public financing for his campaign?
