Awesome, first we stop referring to captured terrorists as “enemy combatants“, and now we’re going one step further and no longer refer to acts of terrorism as terrorism, but as “man-caused disasters”…
Call me stupid, but a “man-caused disaster” is a plane or train wreck caused by negligence, it is NOT a situation that arises when people deliberately seek to to spread terror in the population by inflicting loss of life and widespread destruction of public and private property.
I guess, this nuance is lost to our new Head of Homeland security, Janet Napolitano, who would not call a spade a spade simply because she thinks doing so keeps us enveloped in a climate of “fear”.
SPIEGEL: Madame Secretary, in your first testimony to the US Congress as Homeland Security Secretary you never mentioned the word “terrorism.” Does Islamist terrorism suddenly no longer pose a threat to your country?

Napolitano: Of course it does. I presume there is always a threat from terrorism. In my speech, although I did not use the word “terrorism,” I referred to “man-caused” disasters. That is perhaps only a nuance, but it demonstrates that we want to move away from the politics of fear toward a policy of being prepared for all risks that can occur.
America has truly entered the twilight zone. To have people such as this run the country is beyond scary, it is negligent.
On the bright side, Barack Obama thinks AIG is a like a suicide bomber…
