I think it is amusing that folks in the MSM are making a big deal about the fact that $150,000 has been spent on Sarah Palin’s wardrobe since she became the VP nominee…
It might not be common knowledge, but Sarah Palin is interviewing for the Job of Vice-President of the United States of America. Like any other person who has ever interviewed for any position of relative significance, appearance is extremely important. The sweaters and jackets she wore while stumping for Mayor or Governor just won’t cut it. Since Sarah is the nominee of the GOP, it is within reason that they would use their budet to present her the way they want their nominee for Vice-President to look; coiffed.
Since the donations are not coming from campaign funds and the clothes are going to be auctioned off when the campaign season is over, it is obvious that those who are making a big deal out of it are doing so not out of any sort of objectivity, but out of a desire to grasp for straws and bring Palin down by any means neccessary.
Hotair has a great exit quote:
Was this a good use of funds for the RNC? They have had more than a $100 million on hand between the campaign and the RNC in September. They spent around 0.15% of that on Palin’s wardrobe. It’s less than they’d pay for a single network-TV spot, and they’ll get more use out of it.
Oh, as for the media’s infatuation with her statement about what the Vice-President does, I hate to be the one to tell the media this, but Sarah Palin is 100% correct. The Vice President is in charge of the Senate. In fact, the only part of the Constitution of the United States which spells out the duties of the Vice-President, is Article II: The Legislative Branch.
So while recent Vice-Presidents have focused more on executive duties, nothing in the constitution says they cannot take a more pro-active role in running the Senate, which they preside over.
