This may the most thinly veiled race bating tactic Obama has yet to employ. It has failed to be sure but disgusting non-the-less. Colin Powell a career Republican but by no means an ideological Republican turned his back on McCain to save his own ass. This is a very intelligent and capable person had his career skyrocket because of Reagan, Bush I and Bush II but now is suddenly afraid of McCain.

This guy could of endorsed Obama at anytime over the last year but waits until he can get maximum exposure from the press, or should I say NBC. This is so obvious it is painful... Powell as been called an 'Uncle Tom' by Democrats for the last 25 years. He teased people in 1996 when he was thinking about running for President but wouldn't claim a party. He was recruited by HW and W to run as a VP in 2000 but he wouldn't commit. He had some Education thing going at the time. He takes the Sec of State job in the W administration and goes on TV to sell the Iraq War.

He get pushed out of the W administration because he disagrees with the administration's policy but the media cast him as a loser, dumb ass that was nothing more that W's puppet. In an attempt to salvage his career and gain favor with the Manhattan media and his Georgetown neighbors he jumps on the Obama bandwagon. This is an attempt to rewrite his 'legacy' and gain him favor with the anti-Republicans.

We are to think that Powell isn't endorsing Obama because of race but because he is scared of Republican Supreme Court nominees like Alito, Roberts, Souter, Kennedy and Stephens. He isn't scared of Thomas, Powell, Rice, Rodrick Page...et.at.

What a tool.

badlybehaved - thanks for the thoughtful reply.

It seems that you wouldn't agree with One4Justice's insinuations that the basic party ideas pre-2008 are garbage and un-American, but you can't quite bring yourself to defend them, because that would mean defending a party that you feel has betrayed you. Fair assessment?

I don't want to give too much weight to a single post on here, but I just found it to be so completely anti-Dem (not just Dems-in-2008) that I thought it would be offensive to most Hillary supporters. I'm generally a very open minded person who seeks out all sorts of opposing views to balance my own. But the one thing that gets my fire burnin' is the argument perfected by our current administration that Democrats are fundamentally anti-America. It really infuriates me that because I have issues with supply-side economics or unilateral pre-emptive warfare, I'm some sort of un-patriotic scumbag. I've got a little steam coming out of my ears right now just thinking about it. So I was just really surprised that sort of message would find a home on a site like this.

But I understand your answer and where your anti-DNC feelings come from.

I'd be remiss if I didn't make two parting comments:

- A lot of people like me "troll" around various sites in order to see how intelligent people express differing viewpoints. I find that a lot more appealing than reading opinions that I already agree with. I'm big on dissenting views, as long as they're light on hyperbole and heavy on respect. So I'm a "troll" who doesn't think you owe your vote to anyone, even if I don't share your opinions. In even our most lopsided elections, few people get more than like 55% of the vote (Reagan '84 got 58.8). So, to me, that means the answers to the big questions are not nearly as obvious as people at either extreme pretend they are.

-I read a lot of comments sections on a lot of different web pages (yes, I have a problem), and I very strongly believe that neither supporters of McCain nor Obama will typically embody the hateful, nasty, narrowminded crap that so many people at either extreme are willing to post. So, for what it's worth, imho, I think the answer to your question about whether your experiences reflect "typical Obama supporters" is no. Just like I don't think a typical McCain supporter believes, as I read just earlier today, that Obama is "literally either the anti-Christ or a messenger paving the way for the anti-Christ" and that we should all brace ourselves for the coming rapture.

As I said, for what it's worth, and in my humble opinion.

Anyway, good luck all. And, to end on something we all agree on, I look forward to continued great things from Hillary regardless of how this election turns out.

I will venture an answer SEM; Each PUMA thinks and acts for themselves; What we all agree on is not voting for Obama. The Democratic Party that I have traditionally supported is not the one I see anymore; My feelings have evolved over the course of the primary and general election; I see the disenfranchisement of voters that started in Florida and Michigan continuing with the help of ACORN throughout the caucuses and now we have Obama campaign workers registering to vote in Ohio (Palestra). What is democracy when there is no respect for voting rights?
The acceptability of the sexism shown towards Hillary and Sarah Palin by Obama's campaign while at the same time crying racism to anyone who disagrees with them shows an egocentric and opportunistic attitude that I find very concerning.

I look at the ones we call "trolls" who come here and seem to think we owe them our votes too; What you have to ask yourself is if they are typical of Obama supporters? Then I ask if he attracts this kind of no-boundary, win at all cost person or somehow they are changed by their interactions with one another.

As far as politics and party beliefs, all can say is the choice stinks but I will vote for the least corrupt. The little bit of experience Obama has had; has not worked out so well; all the money he and Ayers put into the Chicago Schools did not improve them; the low income Housing at Grove Parc was hardly successful.
I guess that I would say my concern for this particular man prevents me from voting Democratic this time. I will probably work against Democrats as long as they continue to behave the way did this time.
