An open letter to those voters who are voting for Obama based on Pro Choice

The issues before us are issues on the world stage and our economy. On those two issues, the inexperience of Obama and the class warfare of the democrats makes the McCain-Palin ticket the only answer. I am not for universal health care, higher taxes and in general the platform of the Democratic Party.

Drilling and the production of alternative fuels are a good way to start the process. The addition of wells, alternative fuels, and nuclear power will not only reduce the cost of fuel but it will produce an across the board reduction in the cost of living. And it will increase jobs in this economy - not across the sea, but here.

Then look at taxing the rich and the ridiculous class warfare that is being waged by the left. Look at Bill Gates; he is rich, very, very rich. But look at the industry he has developed. Not just the people Microsoft employs but the vast industries that have come from the development of Microsoft. Rich people spend and/or invest money and that fuels the economy. If we continue to punish our producers then we will see our producers move to other countries or just stop producing.

So there are many reasons to vote Republican, but many people are concerned about the protection of choice. I am a pro choice Republican. Those six words are bound to cause people on both the left and right to question my sanity. It almost seems as though pro choice and Republican are mutually exclusive words.

I remember with terror the years of back-alley abortions, coat-hangers, various different chemicals, and other different forms of desperation that resulted from an unwanted pregnancy. I worked hard to stand against the laws against legal abortions. Then, miraculously, there was Roe v Wade and I left the marching and vigils and letters and was happy to go on with my life.

The result was, though, that I voted Democratic for years. Then in 1994, when I was truly unhappy with many of my picks, I heard Republicans say that it was time to stop voting a single issue and I did. I have been at peace with that decision.

To me the pro choice v pro life issue is at its base a religious issue and so the right to choose comes under Freedom of Religion. Even from here I can hear so many of the most outspoken on the right screaming “it is murder and must be treated as such.” “There is no excuse for the taking of the life of the most innocent among us.” Well that argument only works if you believe that life begins at conception. Many, many people do believe that and with all of their hearts. The two top people on the Republican ticket have stated that, the Republican Platform states that, and many of the party faithful believe that. I am sure some on the Democratic side feel that.

So why would I tell you I am pro-choice and Republican? Because I don’t believe that life begins at conception and I have a lot of company including some religious teaching. The larger point though is there are some of us who do not belong to organized religion and by the wonderful words of the Constitution of the United States; Congress will make no law that establishes a religion. What that means to me is that the argument of when life begins is a belief and for some of us life begins at the quickening. That is why I do not have problem with the first trimester abortions.

So to those people that would vote for McCain except for his and Sarah’s pro-life stand, consider that the President cannot change Roe v Wade. He can appoint strict constitutionalist judges or he could ask Congress to propose legislation to pass a bill banning abortions, but the President and Vice President can not just call for a ban on abortions.

The arguments for a ban on abortions can, I feel be challenged. Take the ban on abortions in North Dakota; it could not pass unless there were exceptions: rape, incest, and life of the mother. Based on just that logic it would seem to me the argument cannot stand. I am not a lawyer but if people believe that abortion is murder, why do they get to decide when it is okay to commit that murder. So I feel that I must one more time look beyond the extreme sentiment of the party on social issues and look to the issues of government. I am in fact a Goldwater Republican. The Senator from Arizona felt that social issues should not be legislated. A careful reading of the Constitution backs that up.

I am comfortable voting on all of the other issues and leaving the pro life vs pro choice to the lawyers and if it is again an issue, I will be putting on my marching shoes and dusting off my signs.

kanzaz,

You are drugged by Obozo-speak. Wake up!!!

His father was 12.5% Kenyan which makes Obama ("the Obozo" for those who know him best) 6.25% African... that is half the legal limit for claiming minority status in America.

He is 43.75% Arab... and 50% Caucasian... whic makes him Arab-AMerican not African-American as he claims... he is only claming African-Amercian so he can ride on the coattails of the hard won progress we have made over the years as minorities and women.... he wants our vote so he will claim anything to get it.

I know being a kool-aid drinker will make it difficult for your to grasp the concept. If you were able to think clearly you would join us is this refrain...

Go Sarah 2008!!!

"TmCm/ Mangelo - guess you decided to attack and then retreat again - oh you are a brave one aren’t you."

Once again, Sparkster, I implore you to check the ISP's. It's not a difficult thing. And also to answer why exactly I would bother creating dual accounts, if I were this Mangelo person.

As far as "attacking and retreating" goes, I've told you already; this is just a past-time to me. I've got better things to do than linger on these boards, waiting for one of your replies.
