Badlybehaved,

You are too funny! "The foxy lady one was giving Ms. Palin a run for her money." Good one!

This reminds me of an old commercial. In the late nineties there was a commercial that was a tribute to MLK Jr. It started with a group of adults telling of where they were when the got the news that he was assassinated and then each person told of how he was an inspiration to them. Then it was followed by flashes of children from all over the world, different colors, different accents, one by one shouting "I AM Martin Luther King". All in all I thought it was a great tribute, but of course at the end of the day, there was controversy. Out of all the things he did, the one thing people got out of why this video shouldn't be published was that he was a "playboy and cheated on his wife".

The same thing happened with Bill Clinton's "Lewinsky" scandal. Even though it was.........messed up to say the least, does that disqualify him from being a role model? Does it discount all of the positive things he did in his life. And that's what I think got lost in this video. Nobody here wants to admit that he has been an inspiration to people all over the world. That's fine, I just know better.

But you are right in your post. I see inspiration, you see indoctrination. Like I was telling PUMA Pundit earlier, we just got two totally different things from the video.

Rozalemagne:

Love the pill avatar. The foxy lady one was giving Ms. Palin a run for her money.

I hope it's not to late to go back to the original idea here. I see a lot of conversation has gone on. My head is all over the place about this. First of all, I have spent many a night sitting on the stoops in the inner city with moms worried that their sons were running with a gang or doing crack. I've been in homes where sexual abuse and domestic violence added to poverty and the resulting PTSD gives kids a 1 in 100 chance of making it out of high school. I think as a mom, I would be relieved if my child was finding direction.

This took place in a charter school; most of the ones in the neighborhoods where I hang out are failing academically. What I do like about them though is that often, kids that are raised in chaos do really well with the stricter discipline. You see, even though I'm a nurse, I deplore the over use of psychotropic medications on children (who the hell knows what it's doing to their developing brains?) Kids I know with various mental health diagnoses ( often originating in that chaos) will suddenly be able to sit still if they are rewarded with the right to wear the school's " I was good sweater". I worry about how this will play out with the whole idea of charter schools. These boys are between 5th and 8th grade. Their brains aren't developed enough for analyzing what they are hearing. If , as a parent you remember that blessed time when your child(ren) just believed what you said ; It's followed by the time when you are wrong about everything.
In a sense all kids are indoctrinated by their parents; what you see here is inspiration what others see is indoctrination. All kids are indoctrinated/inspired in school; thus the Pledge of Allegiance. These boys are being inspired/indoctrinated, not to be American but Obomican. How do you think Jane Q. taxpayer will view this and is it so different then what we hear of the dreaded Madrasses?

Let's look at these boys; I think inspiration is great but it's a risky thing to inspire them to follow someone who 1.might not be president 2. might end up being not a very good role model after all. Historically, I'm not one to trust the right wing press, so most of my thoughts about Obama come from my own looking into things; You've heard them all from me before. One that really bothers me is the Grove Parc stuff. It just seems that Obama did not do right by the poor mostly people of color in Chicago; Take all the other stuff off the table; He let those people down and I'm sure they trusted him because he was 'like them'.

Something to think about: Everyone has released their taxes for the campaign; By percentage of income Obama and Biden's contributions to charity were really low ( Biden about 750.00 a year.)compared to Palins and McCains (over 25%. Neither Ms. nor Mr. Obama even chipped in the 3 dollars for the campaign financing that he promised he would use. Obama has raised over 450 million dollars in campaign contributions; he gets to keep any money left over; it will be interesting to see what he does with it.

PUMA Pundit, I respect that.

I guess it's just left up to interpretation.

I did think the "healthcare" spew was a far stretch, because I don't think at that age, they can fully grasp the importance of that policy. So it did seem as though they were being a little.........coached.

But, are you saying that it's wrong to say "Candidate X inspires me"? Because that is what the kids in this video were saying. And it's being said all over the country. I think this election has been THE MOST inspirational one we've seen since Bobby, and I say that not because of Barack Obama. I'm inspired by him, i'm inspired by Hillary Clinton, and even though I am not a supporter of the McCain-Palin ticket, I am inspired by them as well.

I think the fact of the matter is just that we got two totally different messages out of the video. Agreed?

Roza,

I have no problem with stepping, chanting, or anything else.

As an Alpha, I first got involved with Go To High School / Go To College and Junior Alpha Men in the mid 90s.

However, never, ever have I seen a political agenda injected into the mentoring being done.

It is one thing to say "I am awesome" it is another thing to say "Candidate X is awesome"

In this video, the latter was done, and not the former.
