Hmmmm. Politics of expediency at its’ best. Back in November 2007, here’s Michelle Obama calling on Black America to support Barack Obama because he’s black:
In an interview clip running on Monday, Michelle Obama invoked the name of civil rights leaders Rosa Parks and the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. when talking about African-American turnout, a crucial voting bloc if Obama is to win.
Michelle Obama said there was a “natural fear of possibility” and that there were times in her life when she was put down or told she’s “not ready.” There is “always that doubt in the minds of people of color,” she said. She said the African-American community has to shake off “that fear.”
“That’s what we want to show our community,” Michelle Obama said. “. . . We can do this too.”
So, black folks should not think about the issues, and simply vote for Barack Obama because he is black.
However, according to our dear Michelle Obama those who vote for Sarah Palin must do so for reasons other than the fact that “she’s cute” or because they “like” her:
Michelle Obama says voters need to decide this election by examining the issues, not because they like a candidate or think “she’s cute.”
Obama spoke in Charlotte on Thursday morning at a women’s round-table on economic issues. The crowd roared at her remark disparaging voters who might cast a ballot because of a woman’s looks, a clear jab at Republican vice presidential pick Sarah Palin.
Obama tried to clarify her remark with a smile, saying she was talking about herself.
Obama said her husband, Democratic hopeful Barack Obama, is the only candidate to deal with women’s issues. She particularly focused on equal pay, health care, affordable college and recruiting new teachers.
So there we have it folks. If you are black, go to the polls and pull the lever for Obama, afterall blacks must stick together, irrespective of the issues at hand. If however, you are considering a vote for Sarah Palin, you must think thoroughly about the issues at hand, otherwise you would be voting for all the wrong reasons.
Obviously, this is a new type of politics, Obama style.
