The P.U.M.A Vote…
August 29, 2008 by PUMA Pundit
Love it or hate it, P.U.M.As are “The Demographic” that will deliver this election to the eventual winner.
John McCain picked Sarah Palin as his running mate to primarily appeal to the P.U.M.A voters out there *that means you*
Now, Palin IS NOT Hillary Clinton, and can never be Hillary Clinton, but this is a good sign of faith on McCain’s part that a sweetie’s (to use Obamaspeak) place is not merely in the kitchen.
As P.U.M.As we obviously want to learn more about Palin, before giving the McCain/Palin ticket our full support.
Truth be told, for us, it is no longer an issue of whether to vote for Obama or not (as self-respecting P.U.M.As we won’t), but whether we would:
a) Avoid voting for President on election day
b) Write in a third-party candidate on election day
c) Write in Hillary’s name on election day
or
d) Vote for McCain/Palin
By picking Palin, McCain has done the most pragmatic thing possible to move us closer to category “D” …
Conversly, by picking Biden, Obama has done the most foolish thing possible to minimize the possibility of getting our votes.

Can’t you see, like I have, that this is just a game McCain is playing with HRC supporters? He thinks the only thing that matters is that she’s a woman. He’s still just as sexist as ever, and this is just him trying to see how gullible PUMAs are.
VOTING FOR MCCAIN / PALIN!
BETTER FOR AMERICA.
IF WE WRITE IN HILLARY’S NAME..IT WON’T DO ANYTHING REALLY…SHE WON’T WIN…SO WHY NOT HELP McCAIN/PALIN TICKET?
OBAMA ALREADY SHOWED OVER AND OVER THAT HE ISN’T LISTENING AND HAS NO GOOD JUDGEMENT…SO WHY WOULD WE HELP HIM WIN?
NOT ME. I RESEARCHED SARAH PALIN ON WIKIPEDIA…AND SHE IS VERY IMPRESSIVE…NOT JUST TALK. AFTER HER SPEECH, I’M MORE CONVINCED SHE’S THE ONE.
Ditto, throw me a bone, however have some meet on it. This is an insult. Hillary had the substance and demeanor necessary to play with the boys. This person is just a lame duck.
PLEASE … Please explain to me why you wanted Hillary in the first place. I was ready to vote for her because I share her feelings on the issues, not just because she’s a woman. Whose ideals are closest to Hillary? NOT PALIN.
A woman’s right to choose, the health-care issue, renewable energy … those are at Hillary’s heart, not Palin’s. Please, PUMAS, explain it — I sincerely want to understand.
If it’s about respecting women, how does McCain calling his wife the “C” word show any kind of respect?!
Please, tell me!
Sarah Palin ain’t no HILLARY CLINTON!!!
They don’t share the same views. They are complete opposites!
McCain is trying to appeal to us and is using Palin for that purpose. Another example of a man using a women for personal advancement. Not this time!
McCain just lost my vote.
Do you care about the issues at all? If so, you will vote this year, and it will be for Obama. There hasn’t been as pro-feminist a candidate with such progressive views of women’s rights issues ever.
Won’t you even listen to Hillary?
It is a shame you are allowing yourself to be manipulated so blatantly by the Republicans. You feel empowered, but you are just selling your power down the river for nothing.
Don’t waste this critical opportunity. Get out and vote for the candidate that shares your views on the issues.
The Irony of it all is Obama’s Campain said she does not have the experience to be VP, but she has more years of elected experience than Obama has… HELLO !!!
It was also basically said by John Roberts on CNN that Palin has a 4 month old baby with downs syndrome and she would be neglecting it by taking the position…
I find that insulting as a working mother of a one year old and expecting another!!
The putting Palin as VP will not push my decision to vote for McCain…
The total bad taste left in my mouth by the Obama campain has already sealed that deal.
If you are so easily swayed to vote for McCain because of Palin, then I have some beachfront property in Alaska I’d like to sell you were the sun never sets and its summer all year. There is ONLY ONE reason McCain picked Palin and it should insult your intelligence. For God’s sake, if you want to show your contempt for the Democratic Party because Hillary didn’t win the nomination, then write her name in or don’t vote. A vote for McCain/Palin is an insult to Hillary Clinton and everything she stands for.
This is funny stuff. I’m beginning to think the “GrandPUMA” is Karl Rove.
I still don’t get it.
Just because she’s a woman, doesn’t mean she’s equal to Hillary.
It’s such a cynical move …
She’s also an anti-women’s rights creationist.
Are you guys so shallow about Hillary’s ideals that you’d chuck them for any candidate with lady-parts?
Palin should be an insult to any real Hillary supporter.
If you people seriously, seriously supported Clinton and out of spite are going to vote for McCain, you’re retarded. All that shows me is that you’re only concerned with having a woman as president or vice president, and you don’t care about POLICY. Seriously, it’s just stupid. If you vote for McCain because he added a woman to his ticket and because you’re still angry about Hillary, you’re stupid.
We owe it all to Hillary…
He loves and she loves. Presidential candidate John McCain embraces Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as he introduces his running mate to the nation midday.Wow, an incredible pick! I am so excited, I am going to donate time, money and enthusiasm…
I think he picked he less because she was a woman and more because of he rather conserative views. Those will help him pull in the “southern Evengalical” vote.
Romney was Morman.. strike
Tom Ridge pro choice..
strike
Lieberman… need I say
Strike
I am sure that some people will vote for her on the just because factor
But I am voting McCain just because he is not BO and probably a 1 term which opens the door for Hillary again
I totally disagree with this post. This is the slam dunk we’ve been looking for. With the Democratic National Committee selling out the womyn’s cause and womyn everywhere.
This is an aligning changing moment. The Democratic party has talked the talk, but the Republicans have walked the walked. Tomorrow is a new day.
I am genuinely moved by what we have accomplished here - we stood up and told both parties that we weren’t going to take it any more, and now we know who has our interests at hearts.
Go McCain/Palin ‘08!
You know, if we keep up the fight, I bet we could get Hillary in the cabinet.
Woman, Please, look at us, we have fought HARD to gain basic rights, the right to our bodies, the right to vote. How is putting an ultraconservative in the white house doing anything? I am young, and I am scarred. I am scared that if i get pregnant again i will have to keep the baby, and not have the finantial support i need to raise it. I am scarred of growing up in an economic shithole, of being set back even more, because women in poverty are so completely invisible.
I dont have 4 years to give to McCain/Palin to try to get hillary in office in 2011. That is a luxury. I DEMAND my politics change now. I sat on my floor with many women in my community 4 years ago and cried in disbelief. I WILL NOT DO IT AGAIN!
mothers, look at your daughters! look them in the eye and tell them you would put an ultra conservative pro life person in office. tell them you are willing to gamble there body’s rights in the supreme court if another conservative judge gets a seat. I am not. write in hillarys name if you must. dont vote. just dont play into the anger that is such a PRODUCT of the PATRIARCHY and vote for Palin out of spite. Please.
Any former Hilary supporter who votes for McCain because of the new female voice on the ticket is insulting THEMSELVES. If I’m not mistaken it was PALIN who only a month or two ago called Hilary a whiner.
The more I read about McCain the more disgusted I am. Every thing he does is not about the best interest of the country, but about how to get into office. Fuck it now, fix it later. Imagine it was Obama/Clinton vs. Mccain/Romney. then we MIGHT have had a person on both sides who was in a position to take over the white house should the the situation arise where the president passed away in office. But Palin for president? It would be a disaster, and it’s not a risk I’m willing to take. Even if her heart was in the right place, if you think Obama is grossly unqualified to be in the president’s office, Palin is 10 times less qualified than Obama ever was.
Think she’ll understand the issue of women’s right to choose? Not a chance, she’s as pro life as they come.
Obama4Me,
Not sure if that’s a compliment or a dig. However, I am not Karl lol…
Wow! McCain has my vote now! (and several of my friends who were on the fence!) I’m SO impressed and she’s as SHARP as they come! I didn’t know what to expect but hearing her speak, she resonated with almost EVERYTHING I’ve been searching for in this presidential campaign! Say what you will about it, Obama supporters and CNN, it just makes you look MORE panicked and desperate. I’m very excited for this ticket now and McCain did exactly what he should have! Go McCain/Palin ‘08!
Wow. Just wow. Casting a vote for McCain just because he nominated a woman is inane. Especially when that woman is a far right wing fundamentalist seeking to outlaw abortion, destroy the environment, and has no qualms about abusing her power.
Don’t you understand that it’s all about the Supreme Court? You have two justices (Ginsberg and Stevens) who are waiting until after this election to retire. If McCain gets elected, we will see conservative justices who want to overturn Roe v. Wade among other things getting placed on the Court. And they, like Alito and Roberts, will be young conservatives who will be on the court for 30 or 40 years, shaping American policy.
So let’s just assume your best case scenario plays out. McCain wins in November, then Hillary wins in 2012. She will be able to enact her policies, only to potentially have them struck down by an uberconservative Supreme Court. Is that really a risk you PUMAs want to take?
Millions of African-Americans will vote for Obama this fall just because of skin color. Is that right? Well no it isn’t. But that is no different than voting for Palin because of gender. Us voting for a woman just for the sake of voting for a woman is the same sexism we all fight to defeat.
Hi. I am a 61 year old woman who has never bloged (?– if that is what I am doing now) before. But I wanted to ask some questions because of this PUMA rage.
I understand feminism, having been one all my life, and I understand being angry about Hilary not being the Democratic nominee . I donated money I couldn’t afford to her campaign. I was furious for a while when she lost the nomination. I grieved, because I wanted to vote for a woman for president and now may never be able to. I cursed. I swore I would never vote for Obama.
All that being said, how can any woman who cares about reproductive rights even consider participating in any activity that might elect an anit-abortionist as a president who most like appointing 3 Supreme Court judges.
Are you all too young to remember life before Roe vs. Wade? Women used to die in back alleys after being jabbed with coat hangers to end their pregnancies. Think about your daughters and other women’s daughters.
If the above offends you because you “pro-life” rather than pro-choice, you would not have been voint for Hilary anyway.
You can elect Hillary in 2016. Obama will fix the Bush mess and then Hillary can make the country better than it ever has been. And all people who are voting for McCain tell us 3 issues you agree with McCain on. McCain has listed all the justices in the Supreme Court he wanted to have removed. He named every Democrat, but not one republican. So lets look at the change Obama offers: the change Hillary wants. Or we can look at the McCain change: eliminate everyone who wants change, so things will stay like this forever. Palin is under state investigation for trying to fire her sister’s ex husband. Wow she seems likes she loves her power. She will try to get as big of a kick as possible with her large position. She doesn’t give a shit about anyone else. I guess my family will have to starve so my autistic daughter can get medicade. My husband just quit his job. It took years just to find one here in Michigan. If only the unions were still around to give us benefits. Oh McCain wants to permanately obolish unions? Oh well. Maybe McCain will take away all wellfare and the lack of taxes will help out. Of course it wont make anything else more expensive.
Wake up people! I voted for Hillary in the primary. I will punch out Obama’s name on the ticket but it will still be a vote for Hillary
She’s pro-life. She’s literally in bed with the oil industry. I’m a working mom of a 6-month old. I am not voting for McCain-Palin. I’m writing in Hillary Clinton.
What I loved about Hillary’s candidacy is that she was a strong woman WITH THE RIGHT IDEAS.
I don’t care that this woman has a child with challenges. Not only is she not ready to lead, if she does lead, she’ll lead us with extremist ideas.
Despite what McCain wants me to believe, not all women are cut from the same cloth. How sexist of him to play politics like this.
re: writing in Hil.
I love her too. But writing in her name is like having voted for Raph Nader in 2000: throwing away a vote. In 2000 those thrown away votes landed us in Iraq. Where will McCain land us?
Please think long and hard. This is our chance to make headway, to break through the ceiling. To get the long needed and deserved respect. Palin is open minded and young. She’s not a one issue woman. She doesn’t tote the Republican water. Research her, be sure you want to throw away our chance, your vote. Abortion isn’t going to disappear by one woman in the whitehouse. It’s a Dem issue that’s been abused to keep women voting left. We are stronger than that. We are more than that. Just think…there could be a woman president in four years. We’re so close. All I ask of my fellow gender memember, please think long and hard –don’t treat this emotionally. We need this. We deserve this. Hillary was our best chance. Now we have a second shot.
It isn’t just about abortion.
It’s about her husband working for the oil companies that will profit from gouging our pockets.
It’s about enacting “ethics reform” that you then disregard when you want someone to fire your brother-in-law. He’s a bum, but you don’t use your job to get back at him. If I were to do something like that, I’d get reprimanded or fired, not promoted to the second highest office in the country.
It’s about all putting all our “energy eggs” in the basket of off-shore drilling in natural reserves–a method that for 5 years in 2028 will save us 4 cents per gallon.
It’s about her disinterest in foreign policies that she might have to decide upon, given McCain’s health and age.
It’s about her flip-flop on the Alaskan bridge to nowhere so she could exploit earmarks.
It’s that while we were fighting for Hillary to win in the primary, she said she didn’t like Clinton’s “whining”–and by extension, I guess she thought we were whining too. Please.
I am not voting for this beauty pageant radical.
She only acknowledged Clinton for political reasons. The Dems did more–and not enough, in my opinion–to acknowledge her during the convention.
I thought long and hard. I did do the research. Did you?
What do you mean we need this? I want a woman in office, too. But not this one.
A second shot at what? The same-old, same-old policies, only MORE EXTREMELY RIGHT than before?
Hillary’s right. I supported Hillary because she was defending the people and values I hold dear.
I voted for her NOT primarily because she’s a woman, but because she’s right on the policies.
I’m NOT voting for Palin. And I’m doing this for me, my child, Hillary, and the country.
For you to say “we need this” is exactly why McCain picked Palin–to play upon the lie that women will vote for ANY women, not women with the right ideas.
I’m no fool, despite what McCain is betting on.
I encourage fellow PUMAs–don’t be played.
Too many women fought hard for my right to vote for me to “scheme the vote” rather than vote my conscious and my values.
Something to think about . . . it is not a question of Abortion / Anti Abortion. It is and always has been a question of ‘Who controls your body’?
One more Bush or McCain SC OTUS appointment and women will no longer have a say so about their own bodies. There are not enough PUMA’s in the world to pass a constitutional amendment to get those rights back. We couldn’t even pass the Equal Rights Amendment let alone this.
This is still America and you are still free to do whatever you choose on Election Day. But this goes beyond cutting off your nose to spite your face, voting GOP or allowing the GOP to win is cutting off your head. Without a nose you are maimed, without a head you are dead. Get the court straight and then get your issues addressed.
Sarah Palin is anti-woman, anti-environment and owned lock, stock and barrel by the special interest oil cartel. Your children’s future should never be put into her hands. The fact that John McCain believes all he has to do is name a woman, any woman and he will get Hillary’s supporters says a lot about John McCain as well as an insult to all women. He is still the sexist flyboy known as Tail Hook John of his youth. A man who had no problem leaving his first wife and children for a beautiful trophy wife. A wife who he now verbally abuses and has no problem calling her the c_ _ _ word in public.
Do whatever you feel necessary for your own self being on Election Day but wishing is not going to make it so and in four years it will be too late for Hillary, too late for women and too late for America. It’s too bad Hillary ran such a lousy race, but she did and she lost.
texas-puma: In bed with the oil industry? Ha! She was the Ethics Commissioner on the Alaska Gas Commission and blew the whistle on a bunch of corrupt Republicans (then again, are there any other kind? but i digress…), and then as govenor pushed to raise the windfall profits tax on oil companies.
I cried today when Mrs. Palin was announced. I disagree with her on several issues but she is a great woman!
I am going to use Bill Clintons Candidate X and Candidate Y test and I WILL BE VOTING FOR JOHN MCCAIN!
Can you imagine Hillary vs. Palin in 2012!!
I would rather see a woman gain office for better reasons than just an effort to further the political ambitions of some old MAN, an effort I find particularly offensive to women, myself.
I particularly take offense to a woman riding into the White House to “shatter that glass ceiling” on the coat tails of HILLARY CLINTON, a far more qualified, deserving candidate and a far better champion of the women’s movement based on her voting record, itself.
There are all those of you who only care about woman power who are blind. Then there are the half way PUMAs who aren’t voting for McCain because they believe in Hillary, but don’t believe in Hillary enough to enact her policies by electing Barrack Obama. I’m not sure if my family wil be able to last with McCain in office. There is no work here in Michigan. We don’t have the money to move or go to college. We wont get a lone. I am disabled from Kidney cancer and cant get a job. What should I do?
If disaffected Clinton supporters such as PUMA continue to ride this train to its logical conclusion, the triumph will be manifest in a Supreme Court full of Scalias and Thomases.
I don’t believe any real Hillary supporter would want that. This isn’t about Hillary, or Barack, or the DNC. It’s about YOU, your rights, your freedoms, and the future of those rights in the hands of good or ill governance.
If you allow yourselves to be the Victim, you will continue to be exploited. It is possible to be angry, motivated, empowered and active, without kneecapping your own hard-won rights as women out of pure spite.
Hillary Clinton asked you….every single one of you….to support Barack Obama. Hillary seems to see what PUMA does not: the Big Picture. How can you really claim to support Hillary, if you simply discount and discard her earnest request that you support the Democratic nominee?
Please consider discarding this mantle of Victimization. John McCain and his surrogates are abidingly eager to exploit you, and they are well on their way with today’s “McCain / [Insert Female Here]” ticket announcement.
HillaryRules,
I am so sorry for your situation. I will put you in my prayers. I am happy for Mrs. Palin because she is clearly competent to be John McCains VP and has been given a chance to prove herself. I am sorry to say that I do not think that Barack Obama is going to help your situation either.
I wish I could help you and hope that you. God bless you and I hope everything works out for you.
John McCain is an acceptable alternative to Hillary. He is middle of the road.
She doesn’t need prayers, she needs a government that cares.
whaiswrongwithyoupeople…… I will put my trust in prayers over government no matter who the President is.
PUMAs:
First let me say, up until January of 2008, I was a supporter of Hillary Clinton. So I do understand your perspective.
Palin is anti-abortion. My father worked as an orderly in a Catholic hospital at a time BEFORE Roe vs. Wade. Growing up as a child he used to tell me the stories. Just because abortions were illegal did not stop women from having them. He told me of women of less privilege and means coming into the hospital with hangers and catheters hanging out of their bodies from botched abortions. Meanwhile, women of privilege came to the hospital for a “D & C” or went on vacation to visit an “aunt”. Women of privilege always fair better than others. This brings me to my next point.
You behavior typifies what is wrong with the women’s movement. You do not want equality for all women. You want equality for yourselves and damn the rest of us. The women’s movement is largely run by middle to upper-class white women, who have no interest in the issues that face the poor and women of color. Think about what you are doing! Your sophomoric pontification about a woman not becoming the Democratic nominee has driven you to the point that you are willing to help a candidate that has no interest in women’s issues. McCain voted AGAINST equal pay for equal work…something our mothers fought and continue to fight for. McCain is AGAINST a woman’s right to chose. Women of privilege, like many of you, will always be able to get an abortion. But what about women who are not educated or who are poor?
While you are upset that Hillary will not be President this year, you have not even thought about the fact that women of color have yet to have the experience of being first lady of this country. What about the racist attacks that the GOP has made against Michelle Obama? Michelle, like Hillary, is an accomplished woman. She graduated from Harvard law school. Yet, I don’t see nearly the indignation from you about how Michelle has been treated. On the other hand, I remember how Hillary was treated in 1992 when Bill first ran. She was also attacked. The difference is, when Hillary was attacked, the women’s movement was quite vocal about how it was wrong. Does Michelle not deserve the same courtesy? As Sojourner Truth once said, “Ain’t I A Woman?” Is Michelle not a woman? She is an accomplished woman and mother at that.
If McCain is elected the people that will be most hurt are poor women and women of color. It is poor women (and many middle class women) that will carry the brunt of not having health care for themselves and their children. It is poor women and women of color that will be affected by not having equal pay for equal work. It is poor single women that do not have husbands or nanny’s to care for their children that will be affected by a lack of increase in minimum wage. It is poor women and women of color that will be most affected by our declining education system. See they can’t afford to send their children to private schools. It is poor women and women of color that will be most effected by losing control over their bodies if Roe v. Wade is overturned.
You don’t give a damn about us. You never did. It is people like you PUMAs that told Ida B. Wells that she could not be a part of the suffrage movement because the inclusion of black women in the movement would bring up the issue of voting disenfranchisement of all blacks. When the women’s movement was started, as bell hooks so eloquently stated in “Feminist Theory: From Margin to Center”, it focused on white women of privilege. Many of the women of that time, held on to the same covert prejudices that their white counterparts held. Yes, they believed that blacks should drink from the same drinking fountains and use the same toilets, but you never really considered us equals. Many of you still believe that.
What you don’t realize is that you are weakening the women’s movement. If you could only take a more inclusive approach, you would have more women of lower economic classes and women of color to join your ranks.
Why am I not surprised by you PUMAs? You come from the same stock that was short-sighted in the suffrage movement and was short-sighted in the beginning of the women’s movement. And you are short-sighted now.
At the beginning of this post, I mentioned that I was a supporter of Hillary until January of this year. It was after January that I noticed that Hillary was neglecting the votes of women of color. First, she downplayed the importance of South Carolina. Then Geraldine Ferraro opened her mouth and exposed the women’s movement for what it is. Like Harriet Christian at the Democratic Rules Committee, Geraldine’s issue was not that Hillary was losing to a man. It was that she was losing to a BLACK man. Harriet Christian stated at the rules committee that Hillary was passed up for an “inadequate BLACK man”. Why couldn’t she have said “inadequate man”? She exposed herself and she exposed many of you.
Like so many of your foremothers, you only support people of color if we are beneath you. That was Geraldine Ferraro’s issue. That was Harriet Christian’s issue. And that is the issue of most of you on this board. You complain about the “Good ol’ Boys”, but you want to be a part of their club and carry their same philosophy of exclusion and power. I know you well. I worked with you in Corporate America for over 10 years.
How many of you, deny racism even exists? If Barack Obama had claimed incessantly that he was losing because he was black after mismanaging a quarter of a billion dollar campaign, how many of you would have denied this and claimed he was whining. Yet, you allow Hillary to not take responsibility for her own shortcomings and cry sexism? Yes there was sexism in the campaign. I am not denying that. What I am pointing out is that it is hypocritical for you to claim victim hood, when you and one of your own (Geraldine Ferraro) showed no respect for people based upon race. In emails that have recently come to light, Hillary, the wife of “the first black President”, was told by Mark Penn to paint Obama as not having truly American roots. Black people are Americans!!!!
I learned in college and I am learning now that if the women’s movement is still run by people like you PUMAs. It has no place for me. And yes, I am a woman, a black woman, who would like to see the movement clean up its act.
McCain-Palin + Souter, Stevens, or Ginsberg retiring = oh noez Roe v. Wade!
Enjoy your Pierced Uterus Mangled Abortion! Some feminists…
The fact that McCain chose a “former beauty queen” and a “mother of five” over several much more qualified Republican woman who actually have political experience is an insult to all woman. All McCain has said with this ticket is that woman are nothing but pretty mothers who should not have the right to choose. I will not sit back and watch as Roe v. Wade is overturned and I will heed Hillary’s call and vote for Obama so I can sleep at night knowing I will have a right to choose and I will be considered an intelligent human being and not a pretty pawn.
“John McCain is an acceptable alternative to Hillary. He is middle of the road.”
Depends on what you mean by acceptable.
Please explain your statement and this candidate using examples of how he stands on the core issues.
Then compare to Hillary/Obama.
Mccain voted against women getting an equal wage in the workplace. How are you not getting the message? Palin is just a token running mate to nab the idiotic women who vote for a woman just because she is a woman. It makes me ashamed to be a woman.
BTW Obama supporters will not allow Hillary to run in 2012 if he loses. They will blame her for his loss.
what a total insult to women. who is sarah palin?
-rabidly pro-life. she belongs to feminists for life, a group that doesn’t believe in allowing abortions even in cases of rape, incest, or cases wherein the life of the mother is in danger.
-has exactly 2 years of experience as governer of a state of 1,000,000 people
-before that, was part time mayor of a town of less than 8,000
-before that, was a beauty queen
-is pro drilling in the arctic wildlife refuge; mccain is against.
this, ladies, is the person one heart beat away from the presidency. and that means something, cause mccain is 72 and has had cancer FOUR TIMES. did we want hillary because she was a woman, or the RIGHT woman? to put this younger, less qualified woman in her place and assume we’ll take the bait is an INSULT.
mccain himself is against everything that hillary stood for. lessee. let me count the ways.
-wants to remove the tax incentives that businesses get for providing health insurance
-voted to cut veteran’s benefits during war time
-voted against women’s reproductive rights and has a 0 rating from NARAL pro choice america
-wants to overturn roe v wade
there are at least 2 supreme court appointments coming up. are you willing to gamble your bodies, and those of your daughters, on a four year mccain presidency?
oh and i forgot–mccain also wants to continue the war in iraq despite the fact that al-maliki called for a withdrawal, seems to be interested in bombing iran, supports torture, and supports spying on americans.
great! so we can lose our daughters to back alley abortions, our sons to the wars in the middle east, and ourselves to health problems cause we’ll be uninsured!
Guest…. gee that is interesting. Seeing that only one woman has ever been on a ticket we don’t have a lot of data on women voting for a woman because she is a woman now do we.
Hey I admit it. A large part of the reason I was voting for Hillary is because she is a woman. You think men don’t vote for men because they are men.
McCain-Palin is a very acceptable alternative to Obama for me.
as an woman’s advocate, i cannot understand how mccain/palin is an acceptable alternative to obama/biden to anyone or vice versa, given how different they are on just about every issue. unless, of course, we are not voting for the candidate who will best stand up for women (i.e with the violence against women act, or reproductive rights, or health care), but the candidate who IS a woman. this, to me, makes no sense…
HILLARYSUPPORTER:
Then you’re not really a Hillary supporter and never were. Think about it — you are voted for the guy (McCain) who voted AGAINST the Violence Against Women Act, and not voting for the guy who drafted the Violenece Against Women Act. Bravo! Can you be more ignorant?
And by the way, it’s different for men in terms of voting for men — gender identity is never really part of it since most if the time it’s the only choice they have — men.
You are a shallow, identity voter and that’s it, no different from the evangelical yahoos or homophobes who voted for Bush, or the White Supremacists that supported Hitler.
Truth hurts, huh?
Have fun looking in that mirror or sleeping for the rest of your life.
You pumas make me sad. Senator Clinton lost. As impressive as she is, she did not succeed in inspiring more people to vote for her than Senator Obama did. That’s just the way it is. I too have felt bitter after previous elections when the candidate I felt was better lost, as in the Gore and Kerry elections. But please, please, please contemplate what John McCain will do in office compared to Senator Obama. I’m sure we share very similar beliefs, and I am sure we are both tired of what the Republicans have done to our country and the world. We have a war to get out of, and a world that is getting more and more chaotic every day. McCain will surely not be a productive force for good and peace. And at home, imagine what 3 more conservatives on the Supreme Court will mean for the next 20 or so years. And I just can’t believe that Sarah Palin is somebody you would honestly fall for. The stakes are way too high for you guys to be helping the party that opposes so many things I know you honestly believe in. Please stop. Please.
HillarySupporter,
How is Palin a “very acceptable alternative to Obama”? What ISSUES were you voting HILLARY for that Palin supports? I’ll bet the majority of those issues are NOT supported by Palin. I CAN understand your frustration; but, are you truly willing to allow OUR country to be further exploited by the element that WE as Democrats DO NOT support?
I AM voting for OUR party in this election because I AM looking our for the rights our the women I love and when (hopefully in 2016) we have a woman on the ticket I will be working MY A… off for that historic candidate!
pete
Sarah Palin opposes abortion even in the case of rape or incest and wants creationalism taught in schools. I don’t know who you people are but if you are down with letting that in the White House and around our Supreme Court? Then I’ve got news for you. The democratic party didn’t abandon you because clearly you’re not democrats. You’re Clinton groupies.
Gullible is the perfect word!!! I can’t believe this site is made to bring down Obama. You support Hillary……great! If you are voting for McCain to make Obama lose, that is really irresponsible!!!! I have kids and I WILL NOT vote for McCain for the sake of their future!!! How about voting for the candidate you believe in instead of being BITTER and sabotaging a presidential race!!! Hillary would be so ashamed!!! I can just imagine McCain ” Yeah Palin is a woman, let’s see if the die hard Hillary supporters will be dumb enough to vote for us now!!!” I guess this website answers his question!
GrandPUMA, HillarySupporter and a small number of other PUMAs will vote for McCain no matter what argument, or appeal to common sense, or the issues the Obamaniacs *and* Hillary Clinton stand for. Stop trying to convert them with appeals to critical thinking, it is way too late for them. As you can see from the comments all over this blog (and I’ve read them all) these right-wingnut PUMAs are even a minority *on their own site*! The vast majority of you will either cast your vote for Hillary or Obama and the smallest minority will throw out their hard fought values and vote for McCain and Palin, despite what she believes in, mainly because she has a vagina. Palin does not share your values and even Hillary, who you so love, despises what you right-wing PUMAs are doing and has *oficially* said this regarding the PUMA movement: “We oppose any effort that doesn’t support a Democratic victory in the fall, including PUMA.”
Take that, it’s called a coup de grace and is meant to put you out of HER misery. You are doing Hillary and all women a disservice by voting your own misery in November. Hillary doesn’t like what you are doing in her name, and certainly would not agree that McCain-Palin is a very acceptable alternative to Obama.
I am truly awestruck by the level of simplemindedness and idiocy demonstrated by all of you who consider yourselves members of “PUMA”.
Firstly, you are all either too preoccupied with your brand of militant-feminism or you are too obsessed with your sense of pathetic pseudo-empowerment to realize that Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton share political tenancies and a senate voting record that are nearly the EXACT same. In other words (for all of you would-be intellectual militant feminists), they share the same policy views and have voted the same.
Thus, it begs the question…..are all you people interested in the betterment of our country through sound democratic leadership? Or, are you interested in pledging your allegiances to a “leader” who makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside? Judging by the entire platform of this ridiculous and utterly shameful movement, it is the latter. In which case you all bear a frightening resemblance to the very people who subscribed to the likes of Adolf Hitler and other evil but eloquent dictators. You are people who care nothing for the future of this nation. You are simply a bunch of shamelessly brainless, thoughtless, unintelligent senseless and foolhardy people who are incapable of even the most basic levels of thought and logic.
I agree with Pete g. Let me also make a few comments as a military spouse. I am afraid at what lies ahead if the ticket of McCain/Palin are in office. The goal to end the Iraq war is too important to allow this as an option. If something were to happen to McCain and with Palin having absolutely “NO” national level or foreign affairs experience, do you really believe she will garner the respect of the military men and women just because!!!! It would be different if she had some Senate or House experience; served on the foreign affairs committee; something! McCain would have done better choosing an experienced woman such as Condi Rice which would have been a real problem for our party. I also work in DC. I probably know better how to manuerver around this political monster than Palin!!!! You cannot compare her to Hillary - to do so is an insult. I was insulted when she called Hillary a “whiner” and now we are supposed to run and support her because she is a woman. That is exactly what the republicans are looking for us to do. They are expecting us to follow our “emotions” and no matter what, vote for the “woman” candidate. She is not Hillary and she does not represent the issues important to democratic woman. Stay on point with the issues and vote Democratic.
For Heaven’s sake!!! Can anyone else believe that McCain pulled such a transparent, and desperate move in picking Governor Sarah Palin from Alaska as his running mate? It is a sign of weakness to see him shift his own politics and strategy to try an underhanded move like this. WOW! Hillary has never been more important to this campaign of a Democrat taking back the Oval Office as she is now. I urge you, please vote for Barack-Biden. Yes, he leaves a TON to be desired, but can we truly call ourselves Clinton supporters when she has not only thrown her full support behind the ticket, but has asked us to as well. If we truly want to support her, then we CANNOT vote McCain-Palin. AND I hope our support will ensure her a high ranking position in Obama’s cabinet. I know we have been duped a few times in this process, but the game has been changed now. Think about what is at stake here…
It is almost comical now how they (especially Nancy Pfotenhauer…McCains’ political adviser) are touting this woman as the most popular Governor in the country. Let me ask you this, does anyone even know the capital of Alaska? Even Kay Bailey Hutchinson, a well known Republican, knows “very little” about her. What a bunch of hog-muck!!!
This was so clearly political. And what really burned me up was how she praised Hillary Clinton in Dayton, but how much everyone has said the Republicans HATE the Clintons, and how they have constantly said “nothing fires up the Republican base like the Clintons.”. AND how Pailn was TOTALLY dissing Hillary by calling her a whiner. NOW they want to capitalize on Hillary’s hard work and years of building a base???? Wow!
So, let me make this clear, I LOVE HILLARY, but I am NOT voting for McCain Palin, and I urge all of you do the same.
Obama-Biden 08 & 12
Clinton-Schweitzer 16-20
We’re not fighting a blind gender battle! If you vote for Palin you are carelessly picking gender over ideology. Hillary is everything Palin is not and could never be.
Hillary would NEVER support Sarah Palin and it’s a disservice to her and the Democratic party to even consider supporting her and McCain. Hillary worked her ass off for issues she believes in and the Republicans share none of those goals, female or not. We must support the Democrats!!
Sarah
ALERT: on today’s (Sat., 8/30) weekend edition of Good Morning America, co-anchor Brian Weir asked a McCain spokesperson, “If Palin were a male, would she have even been considered?” Does this sound familiar? Here the media goes again. And what about Ferraro being villified for asking that same question about Obama? Either that question is fair or not. I am an independent. I was going to vote for Hillary Clinton. I am a male. Either experience counts or it does not. Either you are a reformer or you are not. A supposed anti-politician, Obama picks Biden!? Either you are against lobbyists’ influence or you are not - Curious how a reporter investigating lobbyists at the DNC was arrested. Either you subscribe to guilt by association or you do not (McCain = Bush but OBAMA does not equal Wright?) Despite the columns, the canonization by the press, Mr. Obama: this independent is voting for McCain. I just don’t think you are being truthful.
What a GIMMICK John McCain pulled. Palin is not Hillary Clinton and for someone from PUMA to go on TV Friday evening and state that all PUMA’s are happy about his pick and will vote for John MCCain because he picked a woman is ridiculous! I will never vote for John MCcain and believe me woman are smarter than what he thinks!
HillarySupporter, I believe many posters who say they’re voting for Palin have used the excuse because she is a woman. A poor excuse. As for men voting for men, will I don’t doubt it and again I find it weak and ridiculous. But I don’t use other peoples faulty thinking to justify my actions.
Palin is a poor substitute for Hillary.
Wow the Anger from some of my fellow women is amazing. I to am an advocate for women but please NOW does not speak for all women, certainly not me! It should be National Org. of Women who hate men and women who do not carry their water.
Sorry that is just not me! I don’t hate people just because they disagree with me! Look at Governor Palin! Look at her! A mom like me! Faithful like me! and then things I aspire to be! She is tough but still wore a dress. She is a lady but she is tough. I don’t hate being a woman I embrace it! Palin took on the GOP establishment in Alaska and won! They love her up there. She is a Woman…. W O M A N!
I still cannot figure out what the appeal is to Obama? Come on from the Obama Girl (where is NOW on her!) to his inexperience I just don’t get it. My party blew it when they passed over Hillary!
Hillary vs. Palin 2012! Or eight years of Obama and another hundred years until we have another woman in this position.
Everyone needs to just take a deep breath and settle down.
Let’s remember what McCain represents in character…a man who repeated cheated on his first wife and dumped her even after she waited faithfully for him to return from the war. I guess she wasn’t attractive enough after the car accident maimed her. He has called his current wift the “c” word…if you don’t know what that means it rhymes with runt. Yes… he really is a women’s adovacate.
God forbid something did happen to McCain…Palin would take back all our rights as women. She is extreme in her views- do the research.
I know we are all unhappy- I am too. But Obama never disrespected his wife or daughters. As I tell my 7 year after a well fought game…don’t be a poor sport. Suck it up.
I chose Hillary because she is an experienced woman, and earned the right to be a presidential candidate.
McCain chose Palin (over Snowe, Hutchinson, etc.) because she the hot, young chick.
Get real, sisters. You CANNOT support McCain! A, B, C or O (Obama) are the only rational options.
Hillary was the better candidate. Obama got a couple lucky breaks to put him over the top. He’s a dweeb to not have even considered her for VP — that would have been an easy win in November. I’m not voting for McCain just because he selected a woman. But that was a big step–esp coming from Republicans. Sounds like more “change” and progressive than Obama’s choice of a Washington lifer. I’m going hear McCain out.
What a relief. It looks like there are only one or two of you wingnuts who can’t see that boobs and a vagina don’t automatically qualify just any woman to run this country.
If that’s too complex a notion for you, ask yourself this:
How will Hillary vote?
Now, back to the real world.
Hear Me Roar. My party picked a community organizer with a set of testicles over the most qualified candidate in either party BECAUSE she had a vagina and a set of boobs. Now go back to the Daily Kos.
You people are really not thinking about this election clearly. Sure, Clinton was your candidate, but she’s not running. If you believe in the ideals that Hillary did, you will NOT vote for McCain. Palin is the anti-Hillary. She is against all Hillary’s ideals. You are just being used by McCain!! Why can’t you see that?! You would vote for Sarah Palin because she is a woman???!!! That defies all logical thinking. I’m glad I have a brain as well as a vagina and a set of boobs. I will not be voting for McCain/Palin, however, I will be proudly voting for Obama/Biden. Obama is the best hope for all the woman’s issues that you must hold dear, but really, look at all the issues in this campaign. Woman’s issues are not all you should be thinking of. I find it an insult to me as a woman that you are all so easily manipulated in this campaign. Please rethink your views, look in the mirror, respect yourselves, and vote for Obama/Biden.
Any woman who was voting for Hillary and who is now voting for McCain wasn’t a democrat in the first place. Any woman who would now vote for McCain solely because of his pandering token VP nomination is a blind fool.
It’s because of people like this - people who voted for the individual that they most wanted to have a beer with - that the nation is in the toilet.

Woman, Please, look at us, we have fought HARD to gain basic rights, the right to our bodies, the right to vote. How is putting an ultraconservative in the white house doing anything? I am young, and I am scarred. I am scared that if i get pregnant again i will have to keep the baby, and not have the financial support i need to raise it. I am scarred of growing up in an economic shithole, of being set back even more, because women in poverty are so completely invisible.]
The right to vote? How hard did YOU fight for the right to vote? And how many of those suffrage activists do you think would have been pro-choice? I bet not many.
The right to your body??? Oh I see, you mean the right have as much sex as you want with total disregard for any life it may have started. And its not just because you’re a woman either, men must be held to the same standard. The parent of any unwanted child must be held responsible regardless of gender, and if a person cannot keep it in their pants with someone who can be held responsible then they are a fool. Have the baby, give it to a loving couple who has seized on the American dream and can pass this that opportunity on to what you seem to believe is the unfortunate result of your personal pleasure seeking. Maybe you haven’t been told yet; don’t have sex if pregnancy is so awful, you won’t get pregnant again. Doctors have proven it.
As far as women in poverty, if you have a healthy (non-pregnant) body and only care about not being in poverty or have some shred of national pride, join the military, they’re paying. Otherwise join the Peace Corps they’ll take care of you too but you’ll probably still be poor. If you’re not healthy find the nearest charitable Christian organization and they’ll likely help you out in some way, even if you don’t believe in God, because that’s what they’re about. You obviously live near some sort of infrastructure as evidenced by your access to the internet. You could also become a resident of Alaska and receive $1200 a year just for living thanks to the taxes Palin placed on oil companies. Tough choices I know, but the founders of this country didn’t find the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution on silver platters either.
I do not believe that any life should be aborted (for born fetuses, like most of us are, we have a name for aborting life; murder). Do you wish you had been aborted? But this is not the forum to expound on my pro-life (hey I LOVE life) views.
Sarah Palin embodies the best a woman can be, which is astounding considering that women have the god given (or dumb-luck of creation) opportunity to give and nurture life in a way that no male can. And she does it all. She grew up in the “wild” western states, if any of you have lived out west it’s typically a man’s world, though women who can match up to the best of people are most always accepted as equals. Wyoming was the first state to pass women’s suffrage and Colorado to grant women the right to vote that you speak so affectionately of winning.
Ms. Biden has risen to every occasion in her life, taken the moral high road, and demonstrated the work ethic to accomplish it all. She has just enough experience to be VP and the highest moral conviction to make the right decision that only a woman can attain which even includes voting against her views, if necessary, to maintain constitutional integrity. Obama has less experience than Palin & the whole Dem Party has demonstrated the “poor judgment” to nominate him for not for VP but for Pres. The job as VP will certainly exacerbate the role reversal in the Palin household, her husband will no longer be the “hard working, snowmachine racing, go to work & bring home the bacon” dad/husband that he’s been until she was elected governor, but he is standing right there with the kids ready to be “Mr. Mom.” Pretty impressive for a north-slope union worker.
Perhaps McCain/HRC would have been some people’s utopia but in light of relatively insurmountable political boundaries it would seem that this is the best alternative (and a great one at that) that the GOP could possibly assemble. It is certainly leaps & bounds ahead of the BHO/JRB ticket.
Some more views:
[It’s about her husband working for the oil companies that will profit from gouging our pockets.]
Hmm… he earned a $47,000 salary for working away from his family in one of the harshest environments on earth. Sounds like he’s realing in luxury from those oil kick backs. Actually EVERY Alaskan is now benefiting from oil “kick backs” via the state government, thanks to the Palin lead largest tax increase on oil companies in Alaska’s history.
[It’s about enacting “ethics reform” that you then disregard when you want someone to fire your brother-in-law. He’s a bum, but you don’t use your job to get back at him. If I were to do something like that, I’d get reprimanded or fired, not promoted to the second highest office in the country.]
Um if he’s an unethical bum in his job too then wouldn’t it be her responsibility? Because as you say “familial” ties don’t matter. Right?
[It’s about all putting all our “energy eggs” in the basket of off-shore drilling in natural reserves–a method that for 5 years in 2028 will save us 4 cents per gallon.]
She talks facts about what she knows, more than we can say for Obama, and she realizes that it is a temporary solution until technologies for renewable energies become viable, even oil companies know this.
[It’s about her disinterest in foreign policies that she might have to decide upon, given McCain’s health and age.]
Yep she’s got a little work to do here, probably not much more that our alternative choice for the top spot: BHO. So far she’d done pretty good with thing she doesn’t know much about. “Hockey mom” to one of the highest rated governors in the nation’s history. I certainly hope you don’t feel “secure” in Obama’s foreign policy experience. Or are you really just forgoing a vote for McCain in so you can get a Dem with international experience in the office, and hoping that BHO doesn’t make it through his 1st year. Since JRB’s foreign policy choices are “dead on.” My appoligies for the sarcasm but this argument against Palin is silly. The Dem rhetoric really found a dull jem in the “Heartbeat way” comment. Regarless of McCain’s age & wellbeing I’m sure he will not go down as the biggest health risk in the presidency (JFK for one).
HillarySupporter, and all of you misguided PUMAs:
1) The party did not pick Senator Obama over Senator Clinton. He got more VOTES than she did. In fact, Party officials bent over backward to keep the race open after it was crystal clear she had lost. And Senator Obama deserves credit for not going negative on Senator Clinton, even after she and President Clinton attacked him. Our chances for keeping the WH out of Republican hands is going to be hurt by the replays of both of their comments against Senator Obama.
2) Senator Clinton did not lose because she is a woman. She lost because, particularly at the beginning of the race, she was not a good candidate. She needed to win among people who were average voters, not Clinton fans, and she showed an initial inability to do that. By the time she hit her stride she had already lost. In addition, many people in America have not forgiven President Clinton for his behavior, and many seemed to be weary of the Clintons in general. This was reflected by polls that showed — at the beginning AND at the end of the primaries — that she could not get over 50% support among the general electorate. A very credible argument can be made that she would be a near-certain loser in the fall, particularly against a candidate with cross-party appeal like Senator McCain.
3) All of your “WOMAN!” sloganeering, as well-intentioned as it may be, has blinded you to the fact that even though Gov. Palin is indeed a female, she will be horrible on all the issues you SAY you care about. You and others here seem to operate under the delusion that mere possession of a vagina is a qualification for the White House.
4) Can one of you articulate what you want a woman to DO when she attains the presidency? Besides exist in her gender status, which she received as an accident of birth?
5) A general set of questions: What do you people actually believe in? Could ANY man fulfill your requirements as president? What would you find objectionable in any woman candidate?
In 2000 and 2004, Ralph Nader — a man whose life had been devoted to protecting consumers and generally fighting against the powerful, pursued his reckless candidacy and helped let George Bush into the White House. So, because he was convinced of his moral authority, he ended up helping elect the worst president in American history. His intentions don’t count. The RESULTS OF HIS ACTIONS are what matters, and by that account he shares blame for the Iraq war, torture, Bush appointments to the Supreme Court, the banking scandal, Abu Graib, the non-response to Hurricane Katrina, 8 more years of addiction to foreign oil, the list goes on and on.
What will YOUR actions say about you 4 years from now?
WOW! What a great response! To the GrandPUMA, it was no complement. Hopefully you figured that out on your own. As for McCain’s pick of Palin, it demonstrates a desperate move to win the election. National security doesn’t matter, the “war on terror” doesn’t matter, the tanking ecnonomy doesn’t matter, experience doesn’t matter. Hell, even the polar bear doesn’t matter. The only thing that matters to McCain is his ambition to be President. Who in their right mind believes Palin would have been on McCain’s short list or long list for that matter, had Hillary Clinton not been such an important factor in this year’s campaign? There could only be two reasons McCain picked Palin. First, she satisfies the conservative base. And second, McCain hopes she will sway enough women to vote Republican or at least not vote for Obama to carry him to the White House. I must say I am encouraged by so many posts who see the absurdity of McCain’s pick. Does anyone else find irony in a ticket where the Presidential candidate is married to a former beauty queen and the VP is one?
Obama4me: YES, I see the irony in the 2 beauty queens!
What, none of the truly qualified Republican women would run with McCain? Or is the truth that any woman would do, because that’s what he really thinks of the women’s vote? Or because everyone knows that with Kay Bailey Hutchinson or Olympia Snowe the ticket should flipped?
This is a man with a history of treating women with petulance, disrespect, infidelity, and verbal abuse, both personally and professionally.
If you want to vote for McCain because you agree with him, fine. If you want to not vote for Obama because you disagree with him, fine. But if you vote for McCain because his running mate has a va-jay-jay then you are exactly what he thinks of women. I would say you would then get just what you deserve, but if we all get it, God help us all.
HillarySupporter might be the most uninformed person I have ever read. So you support women because they are women? Palin’s views are polar opposite to Hilliary’s views but you support her? I am embarrassed for you as you are a very uneducated person and most likely do not have the intelligence to go through every day life.
If you support Hiliary then you are completely insulting her with your efforts. Do you want Roe V. Wade reversed? That is really I AM A WOMAN.. Do you want uneven wages? Which McCain still supports THAT IS I AM WOMAN. You are a complete embarrassment to woman
Don’t worry ladies. After the reversal of roewade, you can (because of the open border policy) continue to have your abortions in Mexico City, which recently legalized them for you.
This P.U.M.A. thing is getting too absurd to be true. I’m certain that the Wizard of PUMA, as Obama4me suspects, is someone doing Karl Rove’s bidding. Or the of Ann Coulter.
I refuse to believe that such ardent feminists as this organization claims to be would truly support the choice of Palin. She is radically anti-choice and is nowhere close to possessing the values or genius of Hillary Clinton, who is someone I admire immensely.
I believe you are calling yourself feminists in order to portray all self-avowed feminists as irrational, one-dimensional ideologues who have an inability to reason or think logically.
And I have to believe that because this whole Puma thing is not a huge hoax, then there is more irony here than my brain can handle.
Either way you are pushing the feminist cause back 100 years by reinforcing the stereotype that women as vindictive, uncontrollably emotional, childish and, most importantly, EASILY FOOLED.
A true-blue feminist, who actually wished to advance the rights of women in this country and the world, would vote for the candidate whose policies actually serve that goal.
Talk about Orwellian!
PUMA voters do not be fooled: Electing Palin is a slap in the face to all the hard work Hillary gave us in the primaries. Sarah Palin IS NOT EVEN CLOSE to Hillary Clinton.
Hillary: Yale law school. Worked for the Children’s Defense Fund and the United States Legal Services Corp. that funds legal assistance for the poor. Pushed for a universal health care for seven years. Served on the Senate Armed Services Committee. PRO-CHOICE. Supporter of Equal Pay for Equal Work. Responsible gun control.
Palin: Journalism major. 20 months as Governor. Anti-Abortion, Pro-Guns. Has no view on the war or on timetables for withdrawal.
Even commentator Mort Kondracke on Fox was HORRIFIED that McCain would be so IRRESPONSIBLE to put someone with so little experience so close to the presidency.
Alaska Sen. Lyda Green, president of the state Senate and a Republican from Palin’s hometown of Wasilla, said: “She’s not prepared to be governor. How can she be prepared to be vice president or president? Look at what she’s done to this state. What would she do to the nation?”
PUMAs: Do not throw votes away and do not throw them behind McCain/Palin. You would make Hillary sick if she saw a woman, with absolutely OPPOSITE views of hers on EVERYTHING and NO experience (not even understanding basic principles of government, like ‘what the VP’s job is’!!), be appointed to VP by her own, most loyal supporters.
You can write in her name on Election Day.
You can reject Obama as your candidate.
You can continue, everyday, to fight for the issues she believes in and fights for — women’s rights, equal pay for equal work, universal healthcare, and more — in your own communities, towns, and states.
You can support Hillary in a lot of ways.
But voting for Sarah Palin IS NOT ONE OF THEM!
Roe v Wade must be upheld.
Universal health care must be achieved.
Equal pay for equal work must be a reality.
Sarah Palin will do none of these.
Instead, you will see Sen. Clinton fighting AGAINST Palin EVERY DAY, fighting to get legislation that is meaningful to her and meaningful to you as her supporters, past the executive’s office.
PUMA voters: DO NOT LET THE REPUBLICAN PARTY USE YOU.
Do NOT be FOOLED into giving McCain a historic candidacy.
Hillary’s a smart, tough, wonderful woman and she will continue to break down gender barriers across the nation and world. But do not let Palin waltz through the cracks all Hillary supporters helped put in the glass ceiling. We cracked that ceiling for a woman who embodied our values and would work hard for us from Day One.
We did not crack that ceiling for Sarah Palin.
Vote Obama/Bidon.
Vote Clinton via write-in.
Abstain from voting. Protest.
But make Hillary proud: do not vote for McCain/Palin.
Seriously HillaryReporter you really stopped making sense in that last post. Now I’ll accept that you don’t seem to compute that Hillary will NOT be able to run again if Obama loses.
But are you really a Hillary supporter? You ask what’s the appeal of Obama. I ask you what’s the appeal of Palin to a Hillary supporter. They’re opposites ideologically. All you seem to offer is that she’s a mom. So you’re voting for someone because she’s a woman?
I see the Obama campaign has found this website… now excuse me I have some dishes to do and a diaper to change!
I AM VOTING FOR A REPUBLICAN FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE!
I will be voting for John McCain!
To the person who said if you vote for McCain you were never a Democrat to begin with! Really? Most of us are somewhere in the middle just like Hillary. Most of us don’t spend all day hating at the Daily Kos! Obama lost me when he said we cling to our religion and guns when things go bad. We are a union family but we go to Mass and we like to hunt!
I guess if I were a voter in 1980 I would have been a Reagan Democrat!!
There are a lot of us out there! Enough to tip the election.
Seriously Hillary Supporter I am not trying to pick on you, but you don’t make any sense at all.
“Obama lost me when he said we cling to our religion and guns when things go bad. We are a union family but we go to Mass and we like to hunt!”
What?
I think you just misunderstood Barack in that comment.
I attended two events today that I think add some perspective to this discussion.
First was the opening of an Obama campaign office in the red county where I live in very red Georgia. This is one of 50 offices for Obama throughout the state. People are energized and a massive voter registration drive is underway, and even if Obama loses Georgia, the political dynamics of our state will never be the same. The ground game in Georgia and other states across the nation is what helped Obama win the primary and will help him win in November. His success is the result of hard work and superior organization.
Second, I attended a book fair and listened to Watergate White House Counsel John Dean talk about the election and what is at stake. And the one issue that says it all is the composition of the Supreme Court. There is the strong likelihood that as many as three justices could be replaced in the first term of the next President. With four ultra-conservative justices already, three more would fundamentally change our nation for many years to come. Roe v Wade is only part of it. Further expansion of executive power and a continued assault on our civil liberties are the real dangers. A vote for John McCain is a vote for change we don’t need, won’t like and can’t afford.
Republicans are good at using fear to hold onto power. And it’s worked on me. I am scared to death to give them four more years to further screw up the country and screw the American people.
I am voting Obama-Biden for the sake of my children and grandchildren and because I love this country. Period.
No cynicism. No sarcasm. No berating. Just a simple plea from me to you.
http://boyssayskippy.com/blog/blog4.php/2008/08/29/come-back-to-the-pride-pumas
AMEN! obama4me!
I’m still waiting for somebody from the PUMAs to answer the questions in my earlier post.
What do you people actually stand for? Is it simply the election of a woman?
Is there ANY man you would vote for?
What would you find objectionable in any female candidate?
And, how do you think your actions should be judged 4 years from now if you have tipped the election to McCain/Palin? Particularly if they change the makup of the Supreme Court for a generation?
McCain didn’t pick her because she’s hot, as suggested above. He picked her because she is an independent, maverick, reformer.
She’s likable, strong and feminine. She got where she got on her own, not by riding on her husband’s accomplishments. She’s got strong conservative values and is a feminist.
She exceptionally well versed in the energy issue.
Please, look at her list of accomplishments before you downgrade her or relegate her to the “hot” candidate. What an insult. To her.
I would argue that her accomplishments exceed Obama’s.
I would argue that she is far more the candidate for change than Obama.
I would argue that she is far more outside the beltway and anti- business as usual than Obama.
Obama picks a 35 year senator. McCain picks a fresh faced reformer with a record of going against her party when it comes to ethics and corruption.
After reading the posts on this site, here is the conclusion I have reached about the most militant, intractable P.U.M.A. writers. This election, for you, has not been about Senator Clinton’s agenda. Her worthy desire to see universal health care, her unending struggle to push equality for ALL people forward or her desire for the decent, ethical treatment for those in this country…for those in this world! It is about your desire for self-affirmation, albeit vicariously. You want to see a WOMAN, any WOMAN, in the White House.
It comes down to maturity. I’m not talking about ‘number of life years’ maturity, but emotional maturity! I am reminded of playing board games as a child, let’s use Monopoly. Usually there are a number of players who begin the game. As it progresses some begin to drop out. Occasionally, there will be one player who knows he or she can not win. But, instead of leaving gracefully will, unethically, give what they possess in terms of property or money to another player; even if that player is not deserving, by way of his of her playing skill to gain such an advantage. This may even have been the player who put our loosing player at a disadvantage to begin with! However, our loosing player is spiteful and places all of his or her frustration about loosing on the most likely winner. Why, I’m sure we all have seen games where an immature looser will even go so far as to tip the board over so NO ONE WINS!
Of course, in this scenario I am talking about an inconsequential child’s board game. This election is about MORE than plastic pieces on a cardboard mat…it is about PEOPLES’ LIVES!
Obviously, if you are very ideologically left, then Obama is probably your man.
But if you are center, then you should consider McCain/Palin. McCain isn’t so far removed from Hillary on some issues.
Look at the issues and vote your conscience.
But please don’t downgrade Mrs. Palin. That’s too insulting and certainly goes against what the women’s movement has been fighting for.
By doing so, you treat her just as chauvinists have treated women throughout our history, layering sexuality and attractiveness to distract from character.
If McCain had picked Romney or if Obama had picked Edwards, would you be saying it was because they were “hot”? Both are arguably very attractive.
