The P.U.M.A Vote…

Love it or hate it, P.U.M.As are “The Demographic” that will deliver this election to the eventual winner.

John McCain picked Sarah Palin as his running mate to primarily appeal to the P.U.M.A voters out there *that means you* :-)

Now, Palin IS NOT Hillary Clinton, and can never be Hillary Clinton, but this is a good sign of faith on McCain’s part that a sweetie‘s (to use Obamaspeak) place is not merely in the kitchen.

As P.U.M.As we obviously want to learn more about Palin, before giving the McCain/Palin ticket our full support.

Truth be told, for us, it is no longer an issue of whether to vote for Obama or not (as self-respecting P.U.M.As we won’t), but whether we would:

a) Avoid voting for President on election day

b) Write in a third-party candidate on election day

c) Write in Hillary’s name on election day

or

d) Vote for McCain/Palin

By picking Palin, McCain has done the most pragmatic thing possible to move us closer to category “D” …

Conversly, by picking Biden, Obama has done the most foolish thing possible to minimize the possibility of getting our votes.

    I downgrade Palin because she preaches abstinence in the schools, and yet her teenage daugher is pregnant.

    I downgrade Palin because she would take away a woman’s right to choose even in cases of rape and incest.

    I downgrade Palin because she would deny the rights of two consenting same-sex adults benefits.

    I downgrade Palin because she supports teaching intelligent design in classes. When it is NOT a scientific theory.

    I downgrade Palin because she is for privatizing healthcare, when more and more people can’t afford it.

    I downgrade Palin because she supports teacher-led prayer in the classroom. When the government is seperate from church.

    I downgrade Palin because she supports making a mandatory death penalty federal.

    I’ve done the research and I downgrade Sarah Palin because she is everything Hillary is not.

    Disagreeing with Palin over issues is not the same as downgrading her.

    And certainly, if you disagree with her positions that is your right. I don’t agree with all her positions either.

    However, I do take exception with one of your statements.

    When you can prove that there are no or very little teen pregnancies in schools that teach the use of condoms and birth control, then you’d have a better point bringing her daughter in to the fray.

    But since there is not evidence, you’re just being an ass.

    Sure there’s evidence. Teens with comprehensive sex ed classes are 60 percent less likely to get pregnant.

    You’re assuming I wouldn’t know that and you know what assuming does…

    And don’t misread me I downgrade Palin not disagree.

    Furthermore, I think, Guest, that you are overstating many of Palin’s positions.

    Since you’ve done your research, please provide us with links to support your claims about Palin’s stance on, say, the death penalty. Or intelligent design. Or prayer in school.

    As I understood it, she’s quite the federalist so I very much doubt she ever advocated mandatory death penalty on a federal level.

    As I understood it she offered that creationism could be taught along side the existing teaching of evolution, not in lieu of. She said something to the effect that they should debate it if they wished.

    On denying benefits to same sex partners I found this:

    “Ms. Palin said she supported Alaska’s decision to amend its Constitution to ban same-sex marriage. But she used her first veto as governor to block a bill that would have prohibited the state from granting health benefits to same-sex partners of public employees. Ms. Palin said she vetoed the bill because it was unconstitutional, but raised the possibility of amending the state Constitution so the ban could pass muster.

    Maybe your research could use a little more depth.

    And either way, intelligent design has no place in a classroom with or without teaching evolution.

    Lunacy,

    I believe you are splitting hairs to validate Governor Palin’s positions. But, I will humor you by asking you how you justify teaching creationism at all in a public school? Evolution is a scientific theory that, through observation, study and experimentation (basically the scientific method) has been proven to have merit. Isn’t creationism a religious construct? Do our public school teachers (on the public’s dime) present this religious construct as science or as religion and what happened to separation of church and state?

    As for the gay marriage issue, it seems to me she was just trying not to offend anyone and still stay on the ‘right’ side of the Republican Party; not really letting anyone know where she stands. That can work for a while but eventually you paint yourself into a corner.

    I could go on with this but I think I would rather just end with
    some wise words for god old ‘Will’-

    “The lady doth protest too much me thinks.”

    First of all you should vote for a PERSON because you believe in what they believe in on the issues. If you believe Palin is the choice because she cares about the middle class and is independent, you are wrong!!! She is as far right as they come. Also my 11 year old sone came home from middle school. he is in 6th grade and he had been told about condoms. Although he already knew because I told him what they are. I think everyone will agree that the parents should tell there children about sex before middle school. Back to the point. So anyone voting for McCain Palin either doesn’t believe in Hillary Clinton or only wants a woman! You disgust me! I need to have a democrat!
